Forum 1 - Disasters and Emergencies

Tornados... Hurricanes...Floods...
Landslides!!!!

Why do you think the news is often about disasters? Do you think that in Venezuela both the government and the population are prepared to deal with these tragic events? Elaborate.

Hi again...

About Venezuela and its population, unfortunately we aren´t prepared for a Disaster or Emergencie...Eight years afters Vargas floods and landslides, there are some homeless people, and many of the neighborhoods have evidence of that natural disaster...In case of earthquake many buildings don't have good structure and may be affected...

See you..

Hi everybody
I agree with Lucy opinion, because in this country we could see in 1999, how the terrific natural disaster in Vargas took us by sorprise, even when it could have been avoid. It was very sad to see our people die after many days of rains.

Heloooooooooo
Well... I think this topic is more common in others country than Venezuela because our country is very strong :), but many years ago we saw the sad scenes in "La Guaira"
I dont like remember that because I feel sad when I read this news.
This topic is very sensitive for all over the world.
Maybe all us think that we are ready for that, but I dont think so...
Because when we are in a situation of disasters and emergencies never we dont know what do...
The government, polices, firefighter and all over the world perhaps we belive be prepare.
Greetings
Laura :)

I think that Lucy and Trina are totally right pointing out Vargas as an example of how little prepared we are to deal with disasters of such great magnitud. Up to this day, there are a lot of families who lost their homes and businesses an have not been compensated by the goverment, not to mention that a lot of roads haven´t been fixed. But the truth is that we don´t even have to go as far back as Vargas floods to know that our capital city collapses when the rainy season comes. Year after year there are promises that the sewer system will be cleaned and improved but we don´t see that happening.

The natural disasters happen in
everywhere around the world,
many towns are on places dangerous
and they must life with that, but them have the prevention like life rule because this kind incident are ordinary for them. The government and
the population must understand without prevention
their lifes couldn't exist.

In Venezuela aren't common natural disasters,
of course that we have had natural disaster,
the girls talked about this, we need understand that we live at a changing world.

We need more prevention culture.
